Coffee Brewing Time Calculator
Coffee Brewing Time Calculator is a tool to help brew better coffee by understanding the three major factors across any brewing method: Time, Temperature, and Ratio. These factors are all interdependent and when adjusting one, the others need to be adjusted as well. This is especially important when troubleshooting why your brewed coffee doesn’t taste as you expected.
To use the calculator simply enter the amount of brewed coffee you want (for example, a 12 oz cup of water would get two fills). Then select your brewing method and ratio preference. Then you can adjust the strength you prefer. Strength is based on the ratio of coffee to water; the higher the ratio, the stronger the brew. The default ratio is 1:15 but you can choose a different one for your personal taste.

The temperature of the water is also critical for good brewing. Boiling water can scorch the coffee grounds which creates an undesirable bitter flavor. This is why it’s best to brew your coffee at just below boiling, between 195 and 205 degrees F.
The final amount of brewed coffee is the sum of the weight of the ground and infused coffee plus the liquid water that is not extracted. This is why it is best to measure the total amount of coffee and water as a weight in grams rather than as a volume in ounces. The resulting measurement is more accurate and allows for a much more precise adjustment when using the calculator.
